Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 26, 2026 · Applies to the thefluentengineer.com website and The Fluent Engineer mobile app
This policy explains, in plain language, what information The Fluent Engineer ("we," "us," "our") collects through the website and the mobile app, why we collect it, and what control you have over it. If anything here is unclear, email us at thefluentengineer@gmail.com and we'll explain it directly.
1. Information we collect
When you create an account in the app
- Email address and password — used to sign you in and sync your progress across devices. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider (Supabase) and are never visible to us in plain text.
- Profile details you choose to provide — display name, preferred language (English, Arabic, or Turkish), your CEFR level, and your daily study goal.
Your learning activity
- Lessons completed, exam scores, saved and learned vocabulary, streaks, and spaced-repetition review schedule — this is what lets the app pick up where you left off and pick words within reach of your level.
Microphone (Speaking Practice)
The Speaking Practice feature uses your microphone so you can record yourself and listen back. These recordings stay on your device. They are never uploaded to our servers, never sent to any third party, and are not accessible to us. You can deny microphone access and still use every other part of the app.
Purchases and subscriptions
- If you subscribe to Pro, your purchase is processed entirely by Apple's App Store or Google Play. We never see or store your payment card details. We receive only your subscription status (active, expired, etc.) through RevenueCat, our subscription-management provider, so the app knows what to unlock.
Referrals
- If you use the referral feature, we store your referral code and a record of who redeemed it, so we can grant the reward to both accounts. No additional personal information is shared between the two accounts involved.
Usage analytics
- We use PostHog to understand which features are used and where people get stuck (for example: a lesson completed, an exam submitted, a purchase made). This data is tied to an internal account ID, not your name or email, and is used only to improve the app.
When you contact us or use the website
- If you submit your email through the website (for a free guide, the app-launch waitlist, or exam-prep resources), we store that email address and which list you joined it for, so we can send you what you asked for.
- The website uses Google Analytics to understand general traffic patterns (pages visited, approximate location by country, device type). This does not identify you personally.
2. How we use this information
- To provide the core functionality of the app — your account, your progress, your subscription status
- To personalize what you see — lesson recommendations, vocabulary at your level, reminder timing
- To communicate with you — a reminder notification, a reply to a support email, a resource you signed up for
- To understand and improve the product — via aggregated, pseudonymous analytics
We do not sell your personal information to anyone, for any reason.
3. Who we share information with
We use a small number of service providers ("processors") to run the app and website. Each only receives what it needs to do its job:
| Provider | What it's used for | What it receives |
| Supabase | Account login, database, cloud sync | Email, profile data, progress data |
| RevenueCat | Subscription management | Purchase/subscription status (no card details) |
| Apple App Store / Google Play | Payment processing | Payment details — handled entirely by Apple/Google, never passed to us |
| PostHog | Product analytics | Pseudonymous usage events |
| Google Analytics | Website traffic analytics | General, non-identifying browsing data |
We do not share your data with advertisers, and we do not sell it to data brokers.
4. Your choices and rights
- Access or correct your data — update your profile directly in the app at any time.
- Delete your account — the app has a built-in "Delete my account" option that permanently removes your account and progress. This cannot be undone.
- Opt out of notifications — reminders can be turned off from the app's notification settings at any time.
- Unsubscribe from emails — every email we send includes an unsubscribe option.
To exercise any of these rights directly, or if something isn't working as expected, email thefluentengineer@gmail.com.
5. Data retention
We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data is permanently removed from our systems (aggregated, anonymized analytics that can no longer be tied to you may be retained for product improvement purposes).
6. Children's privacy
The Fluent Engineer is designed for engineers, university students, and professionals, and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
7. Security
Your data is protected using row-level security at the database level — access rules that ensure an account can only ever read or modify its own data, enforced by the database itself rather than relying only on application code. No system is 100% immune to risk, but we do not take shortcuts with how access is controlled.
8. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, let you know in the app or by email.
9. Contact us
